Abstract
This article provided an overview of the current status of biobanks (previously known as gene banks) that preserve and distribute human biospecimen. We registered about 61 institutions by the end of 2014. Their facilities, collection, storage, and distribution processes were investigated in paper reviews.
In 2014, the storage level of human biological materials was estimated to be 39.2% (1,337,692 specimens)and this figure significantly increased from the number of specimens in 2012 (524,805 samples). The case of supply to researchers inside of the institution was predominant in outside researchers of institution which bank is affiliated in 2012¡2014. To activate research and release information, comprehensive and continuous investigations are still needed in identifying the biobanks.
